The Ford lease transfer process, step by step

  1. 1

    Contact Ford Credit

Call Ford Credit at 1-800-727-7000 to request the Transfer of Equity/Lease questionnaire and credit application. You can receive it via Account Manager upload, mail, DocuSign, or fax.

  2. 2

    All parties complete the questionnaire

Both the original lessee and the new applicant fill out the questionnaire. Each new applicant submits a credit application separately.

  3. 3

    Ford Credit reviews credit

Ford Credit pulls the new applicant's credit report and reviews the application against their underwriting standards. The account must be current, including all late charges and fees.

  4. 4

New driver provides proof of insurance

Per Ford Credit's requirements, the new lessee must provide proof of insurance on the vehicle before the transfer is finalized.

  5. 5

Pay the transfer fee and complete

The nonrefundable transfer fee (up to $135) is assessed when the transfer application is approved and appears on the next invoice — paid by the original customer before the transfer is processed.

Ford lease transfer FAQs

Does Ford Credit allow lease transfers?

Yes. Ford Credit calls this a "Transfer of Equity/Lease" and accepts applications throughout the lease term. The new applicant must submit a credit application and be approved by Ford Credit.

What does a Ford lease transfer cost?

Up to $135 — a nonrefundable fee assessed when the transfer is approved. It appears on the original customer's next invoice and must be paid before the transfer processes.

Am I released after a Ford lease transfer?

Yes — once the transfer is processed by Ford Credit, the original lessee is released from the lease obligation.

Can the buyer be in a different state?

Yes, but the buyer becomes responsible for any sales tax, property tax, registration, and title fees required by the new state. The total monthly payment may change to reflect taxes in the new registration jurisdiction.

Does Lincoln have the same policy?

Yes. Lincoln leases are also serviced by Ford Credit under the same Transfer of Equity/Lease program.
